What is MDF?

MDF, from the English termMedium Density Fibreboard, is an industrial wood product. It is fiberboard, i.e. artificial wood plate, which is produced by applying high pressure and temperature.

For its production mainly wood fibers are used, in combination with resins, water and paraffin. The materials are mixed and pressed in special industrial presses to produce the bare MDF boards.

Desired sheet thicknesses are determined during production process planning. In the final stage, the leaves are properly rubbed so that their surface is flat, smooth and ready for further processing and use.

The main advantages of MDF

MDF has significant advantages over other industrial wood products. Among them are:

  • the increased impact resistance,
  • limited deformation, resistance to pressure,
  • the smooth and uniform surface,
  • the possibility of easy milling,
  • ease of routing and edge processing,
  • its suitability for many furniture and woodworking applications.

Thanks to its specific characteristics, MDF can be used in many different constructions, from simple surfaces and furniture to more complex decorative applications.

What is natural wood veneer?

Veneer is a natural wood product. It comes from processing suitable timber, which is cut into very thin layers. These layers are called veneer sheets or wood sheets.

Each sheet retains the natural characteristics of the type of wood it comes from, such as:

  • the waters,
  • the shade,
  • the design,
  • the physical differentiation of the surface.

For this reason, veneer offers the special look and feel of natural wood.

How is veneered MDF produced?

To produce the veneered MDF, the selected veneer sheets are glued onto the surfaces of the bare MDF using a special glue and an industrial press.

In this way, the stable and smooth base of the MDF acquires a finished surface of natural wood. Usually, the coating is applied to both outer sides of the sheet, in order to achieve a complete and quality result.
